The University of Hawaii at Hilo is kicking off its second annual Vulcan Challenge fundraiser in partnership with UH Foundation to raise funds to support the Vulcan Athletics department.
Vulcan Challenge 2022 will run now through Sept. 19 with the goal of raising $75,000 for immediate support of UH-Hilo’s student-athletes.
Last year’s inaugural run spanned more than three months and brought in $223,500 to support Vulcan athletics, surpassing the goal of $200,000.
“Our student-athletes are achieving in the classroom at record levels and representing UH Hilo, the state of Hawaii and our community on the courts and fields of play with great pride and success,” Director of Athletics Pat Guillen said in a statement. “But with success comes even more challenges as we not only want to sustain our success but also continue to improve each and every day. In order to accomplish this, I humbly ask for your continued support so we can continue to represent UH-Hilo and our great community while also providing our student-athletes with the best educational and athletic experience possible.”
Donors can select a sport-specific program or choose to support the athletics director’s general fund, which will help in responding to urgent needs for critical services. Donations can also go toward supporting Vulcan Athletics sports medicine.
Digital forms of payment via PayPal, Apple Pay and Venmo are accepted.
“We just completed one of the best overall years in recent memory, and this success is due in large part to our incredible community,” Guillen said.
“We are truly grateful for the support from our local-business community, boosters, fans, parents, faculty, staff and our senior administration here at UH-Hilo.”
This fall, the Vulcans will host their first on-campus home games on UH-Hilo’s new turf soccer field, marking the completion of the campus’ athletics facilities renovation project that included a revamped softball field, resurfaced tennis courts and the addition of a multipurpose building for concessions, bathrooms, team rooms and more.
